WASHINGTON - The Senate voted 79-14 Thursday to override President Bush's veto of a $23 billion water bill - marking the first time a Bush veto failed to stick.

The vote followed a 361-54 vote to override Bush's veto in the House, making it possible for the legislation to become law despite Bush's opposition.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called the effort "historic."
